“I don’t know how far Ken’s gone with his two-speed wiper conversion, but converting the DR3A motor is the easy part, the complexity comes with the switching and parking. This piece gives a good summary of what’s required, but I know a couple of people who’ve let all the smoke out trying to get switching and parking to work. There are also options involving the 14W motor and multiple relays but that’s messy and undignified. About thirty years ago I tried a number of options and the best one, which I still have today, is to use the 12AUW, two speed motor fitted to Australian-built Minis. All that’s required is an MGB wiper switch (Lucas 35927 57SA) and two, additional wires. And maybe one or two, minor tweaks, but it’s been a long time. The top leg on the motor is about 15mm ‘further north’ than the Sprite original but I made up an adaptor (suitably lightened) so it mounted using the original holes. Misty memory is that the 12AUW comes with a 100º drive gear but I’ve super-tweaked mine with a 110º gear (I can’t remember from where!) for more sweep. Now, instead on one speed that’s always slightly wrong, I have two speeds that are always slightly wrong! But it looks ‘right’ and it’s a far better motor. An example is here and a thing to remember is that the wheel boxes often fill with water and corrode the park ring so a reco item is best”.
