YOW 887 nearing completion
YOW 887 nearing completion

YOW 887 is the second Sebring Fastback replica owned by Jez Hayter, who also owns the ice racer 496 XUM. It is being built by Mythron Cars as FR01, the first of its Fast Road cars, which are designed for touring and everyday road driving rather than the track. The car is currently nearing completion.

The car is based on a 1959 Austin Healey Mark 1 Frogeye Sprite, which was stripped and repaired before the fastback body went on. The photos below follow the build:

  • Bodywork: the chassis was repaired and the fastback shell filled, primed and blocked
  • Underside and interior: the underside was sealed and the interior painted blue
  • Paint: the car was masked up and given its blue top coat
  • Assembly: parts were finished in satin grey, and the pedal box, front suspension, brakes, aluminium radiator and dash panel went in
  • Finishing: lights, trim, tan leather door cards, the steering wheel and champagne steel wheels were fitted

Specification

  • 1380cc A-Series (A+) engine, around 110 bhp
  • Standard 4-speed gearbox
  • About 630 kg
  • Softer, road-focused suspension: adjustable at the front, telescopic dampers at the rear
  • 4-pot front disc brakes, uprated rear half shafts
  • Leather seats, roll bar, electronic dials, racing alternator and electronic ignition

More photos will be added as the car is finished.
